Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 unveiled with an Intel Atom chipset; runs Android and Windows 10

Beside the Redmi Note 3, Xiaomi also unveiled its second tablet: the Mi Pad 2. Externally the tablet looks the same as its predecessor, but now features a metallic back that gives it a premium look and feel. 

The tablet retains the 7.9-inch IPS display 2048*1536 resolution of its predecessor, but comes with completely refreshed internals. Instead of going with a Tegra K1 chipset, the Mi Pad 2 comes with a 64-bit Intel quad-core x5-Z8500 CPU that is capable of boosting its clock speed to 2.24GHz. Other notable specs of the tablet 2GB LPDDR3 RAM, 16/64GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi ac, USB Type-C port, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, and 3G connectivity. The rear 8MP camera has an F/2.0 aperture, while the front houses a 5MP camera.

Despite coming with more powerful internals, the Mi Pad 2 is 18% thinner than its predecessor and just a wee bit lighter. The beefy 6,190mAh battery inside the device is capable of delivering up to 648 hours of standby battery life.

On the software front, the Mi Pad 2 runs on MIUI 7 that features some major performance and stability improvements. Interestingly, Xiaomi will also be offering a variant of the Mi Pad 2 running Windows 10.

Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 will be available in Dark Grey and Champagne Gold colors for 999RMB ($156) and 1,299RMB ($200) for 16GB and 64GB variants, respectively.
